2 wine cocktails to kick off spring season

You should try these cocktails

Happy Friday, people….

Spring officially starts on March 19th.

Although we expect some snow on the 20th and 21st of March ( please don’t ask me how, it’s Calgary weather), I won’t let that dampen my spirits.

In the spirit of the season and the coming summer months, I’ll share wine recommendations you can try as you party or in Nigerian colloquialism, faaji.

Let’s kick off the season with two wine cocktails you should try or make as soon as possible.

Yes, we have wine cocktails.

Two simple wine cocktails to kick off the spring season

Here we go:

#01: Bishop Cocktail

The Bishop cocktail recipe has been around since the 1930s. It takes about five minutes to make. You’ll need:

  • 1 ounce of red wine

  • 3 ounces of rum

  • ½ tablespoon of freshly squeezed lime juice

  • 1 teaspoon of your preferred syrup.

How to make it?

- Fill your cocktail shaker with ice

- Pour ingredients into the cocktail shaker

- Shake well

- Strain into a red wine glass (some folks say you should chill the glass, I have tried both)

- Enjoy!

#02. White Wine Mojito

If you’re a fan of the classic rum-based mojito, you’ll love this. You’ll need:

  • Any bottle of white wine ( I prefer my favorite - Sauvignon Blanc)

  • 2 cups of sparkling lemonade

  • 2 limes

  • 1 lime to garnish the drink

  • 1 cup of fresh mint

  • Sugar, if you have a sweet tooth and the lemonade isn’t sweet enough.

How to make it?

- Chill the sparkling lemonade and white wine (I said chill not freeze)

- Once its cold enough, mix the wine and sparkling lemonade in a large pitcher

- Juice the 2 limes and add to the wine and lemonade mix

- Mince ¾ cups of fresh mint and add to the pitcher

- Add optional sugar if you want it sweeter. Mix well.

- Slice the remaining lime to garnish your glass rims. Serve over ice.

P.S: Add the mint right before you serve, because the leaves start to go go brown over time.

Now, go uncork a bottle. It’s the weekend.

Dozie ❤️
