Here's a holiday season party trick

Who’s looking forward to the holiday season?
Well, I’m. Monday is my birthday. And then we’ve got the Christmas season coming. Which means books, parties, wine, and sleep…I hope.
Talking about parties, I’ve got a party trick for y’all. But let’s paint a picture first.
So, you’re hosting folks, including your boss. And you’re looking to show off. Well, here’s a pro tip you can use.
You will often need a different type of wine glass for each type of wine. Here’s an image I got of Decor Monk.
Now, I’m not a big stickler for rules and standards. Plus, not sure any casual wine lover should be splurging on wine glasses. So here’s a rule I use for my glasses.
Most wine bottles fall into two categories. You’ve got:
The Bordeaux bottle: These bottles have straight sides and high shoulders. And are probably the most popular wine bottles in your favorite wine store.
For these bottles, I would use a Bordeaux wine glass. These glasses are designed for full-bodied wines. And more often than not, wines you get in these types of bottles are full-bodied and high in tannins. The experts say their narrow base helps concentrate the flavors you get with full-bodied wines.
So if you’ve got a red wine, especially a Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, or a Bordeaux, whip out this wine glass.
The Burgundy bottle: These bottles have sloping shoulders and wider bases. And are yet another popular bottle in your wine stores.
Here, you use the Burgundy wine glass. They have larger bowls and wider mouths. The wines in these bottles are usually light-bodied, fruity, and have complex flavors. So, the wider mouths help expose the wine to more air. Air leads to oxygenation, which helps reveal the wine’s complex flavors.
The experts call this ‘helping the wine open up.’ Such a term.
I would use the Burgundy wine glass for a Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer, or a Reisling.
Now, these are my personal rules. And the wine sommeliers might have my head for this. But it makes my life easier.
